In this composition, I aimed to prioritize the principles of asymmetry and balance. This whole process was all about maintaining harmony amongst all the different things going on, which is something that is valuable in a design career (i.e. branding). I chose to go with the first option, of just reflecting simple shapes so that I wouldn’t get caught up in making the shapes look a certain way, but instead, focus on how they are communicating with one another. Although we were allowed to use triangles, circles, or rectangles, the way in which they were cut from one another was very important in maintaining balance. It was also interesting to understand how shapes have visual weight and can pull the whole composition one way or another by not even moving. I wanted to create balance but also have variety and asymmetry in my composition and I think I accomplished that well.
